Those of you hoping to go head to head on the GamePad when the Wii U releases may have to wait some time before the feature is ready. At launch, the Wii U will only support one GamePad.
Originally, Nintendo announced the Wii U would only support one GamePad, but at E3 last year it changed its stance when they announced support for a second GamePad. For now, it looks like we’re back to one.
“Games need to be built that can take advantage of the two GamePad controllers,” Nintendo America boss Reggie Fils-Aime told Gamasutra. “It’s going to be well after launch for those game experiences to come to life.”
Nintendo expects developers will first need to figure out how best incorporate a second screen in gameplay. A good call showing Nintendo doesn’t want the GamePad to become too much of a gimmicky feature.
With this news, we can also expect the Wii U to ship with just one GamePad when it releases later this year.
