China Times is reporting this morning that Apple is going to save costs on a budget iPhone for emerging markets by using a 28nm Snapdragon SoC which has Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G all on the same chip, but wouldn’t support LTE.
Supply Chain Industry revealed that Apple’s low-cost iPhone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon single-chip, initially only support 3G without support for 4G LTE single-chip native support for WiFi and Bluetooth wireless networking capability, so do not need to increase the wireless network mode group. Of this chip commissioned TSMC foundry to 28 nm.
The idea here is that Qualcomm’s chip would have everything on it, making it cheaper for Apple to use. But why would Apple move to Snapdragon when they can just save costs by using one of their older generation A-series chips, like the A5 or A6?
