World Of Goo is an indie puzzle game which first made its critically acclaimed name on Nintendo’s Wii Ware service before moving over to the comfy surroundings of the Android Market. A quality strategy app with a goofy sense of humour, this has quickly become a Life Of Android office favourite.
If you’ve been longing for an Android app which combines quick fire construction with physics-based puzzles, the World Of Goo is the answer to all your prayers. The idea is to build a web of goo from each level’s starting point to a trickily positioned pipe at its end. The less goo you use to build your bridge or tower, the more you collect at the end of each level.
To complete a puzzle, you’ll need to collect a certain amount of goo which often means sacrificing the stability of your structure in the hope it will hold out for long enough. With 48 levels to play through, all of which are posed at a challenging difficulty setting, it’s fair to say World Of Goo offers a huge amount of longevity for its comparatively small asking price.
Although fiendish gameplay is central to this app’s success, its graphics aren’t bad either with every squelch and shake of goo captured in some glorious cartoon shades. Some cheery, offbeat humour also goes some way to marking out World Of Goo as a puzzler with a heart which will appeal to strategy addicts, as well as those looking for some quick and innovative Android fun.
In the few days we’ve owned this app, we’ve already managed to waste an unholy amount of time at its hands. Heaven knows how we’ll get any work done before Christmas but we doubt procrastination can get much more entertaining.
The Bottom Line
A superb Android puzzle app which appeals to smartphone owners of all ages.
