Task-management apps are among the most popular on mobile app marketplaces. Why? Simple, because people are always looking for tools to make life easier. That’s where Wunderlist by 6Wunderkinder comes in.
Wunderlist, among the top multi-platform task-manager apps, has just received a massive update for Android users. Launched a little over five months ago, the first version of Wunderlist for Android brought the great concept of managing your task on your smartphone, but omitted the UI that iOS and Mac users grew to love.
This month’s new version fixes this; from the sign-in the the “more” shortcut, this app has been rebuilt from the ground up.
Before I get into what’s new to Wunderlist, I’ll explain what this app is for those of you who are confused. To explain it best, I interviewed the 6Wunderkinder team:
Interview With 6Wunderkinder
What Is Wunderlist?
Wunderlist is a simple and free slick task management tool. We are trying to make it easier for people to get their tasks done in a non distracting way. There are a plethora of task management tools available but they all seem to fall short in one area or another. With Wunderlist we’ve tried to do everything the right way from the very start. Wunderlist is multiplatform, it’s completely free (including cloud synchronization) and allows you to collaborate on tasks with friends, family and colleagues.
Who Is It For?
Wunderlist is for anyone, anywhere. We recently updated our apps in up to 30 new languages and we’re enjoying servicing different parts of the world. Wunderlist is incredibly flexible, it’s as complex as you want it to be. With a gorgeous and intuitive interface, beginners can take to Wunderlist with ease. With collaboration features and multiplatform support it’s also ripe for business use.
You shouldn’t adapt to your software, your software should adapt to you.
How Can It Help the Average User?
Users just want to get things done without battling their software. We understand this. There is no learning curve with Wunderlist so you can start working on your tasks straight away. Our feature set is perfectly catered for any type of task management, even the boring stuff.
Maybe you and your wife want to make a grocery list? Fire up your Wunderlist, add your items and share it with her so she can make sure you’re buying lunch meat for the kids instead of that six pack of beer. Even if you are in the car on the way to the grocery store, you and your wife can constantly update Wunderlist thanks to our cloud sync solution!
A Quick Scenario
We thought of a perfect scene to demonstrate the effects of Wunderlist. Enjoy!
Jason just got a new job as an assistant to Molly, the most notorious editor in town, and his daily routine involves doing whatever she asks of him. On Monday, Molly tells Jason to fax over a story confirmation letter to a sister site, let go two interns, file a stack of paperwork, and get two orders of coffee from the nearest Starbucks (one espresso and one decaf).
Now, this doesn’t sound too complicated, right? Wrong. These assignments – as well as twenty-three more – are spread out across the week. How will Jason keep up? With ordinary paper and pencil, he’s bound to forget one or more tasks, and before he knows it, Molly will find someone to replace him.
Jason pulls out his Android smartphone, loads Wunderlist, and is already on his way to a productive week. He creates a new list called “work” and starts adding the indidual tasks one by one. He then sets up reminders and due dates. Before long, Jason is no doubt promoted to executive secretary.
How Does It All Work?
When you launch Wunderlist, you are greeted by the lists screen. Here, you break up your tasks into categories like school, work, and miscellaneous, or by people (to share with). This screen will show you all your lists along with a number telling you how many uncompleted tasks are left. Simply type in the box above to add a new list.
Wunderlist Home Screen
When you enter a list, you’ll see a similiar interface. From here, you can add tasks to complete the same way you’d create a list. To give the task further detail, tap on it to enter the settings. There, you can add details such as a descriptive note, a due date, reminder, change the list it belongs to, delete it, or make it a priority by starring it. Of course, these customizations aren’t required and are solely up to you. Therefore, creating a new task is a one-step process by default. Quick and painless.
1) Add tasks via email 2) Additional task editing
To complete a task, simply tap the checkbox and that’s it! To filter between tasks, use the shortcuts below the appscreen to see your lists, tasks due today or tomorrow, overdue tasks, starred tasks, completed tasks, and a window to view all.
The New Stuff:
Sync lists or access settings right from the native menu button
Drastic increase in overall speed and fluidity
Smaller footprint for those low capacity devices
Uses less ram
Push notifications now as standard
Small UI improvements
So that’s it for the update. In a nutshell, Wunderlist is the go to app for simplicity and productivity. If you slack off in the memory department or if you just need a handy assistant, this is your new best friend. However, make sure that before you make update Wunderlist, backup your current lists by syncing with your account. If you don’t have one, now would be a great time to sign-up. After all, it’s free!
Oh, and check out the sweet Android Guy that 6W made just for this special occasion!
