Microsoft's victory in July was no fluke: According to early NPD results, Xbox One outsold PS4 for the second month in a row.
"Thanks to our fans and their excitement for new Xbox One games and the recently launched Xbox One S, which is the only console available this holiday with built-in UHD 4K Blu-ray, 4K video streaming and HDR for video and gaming, Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in August," said Xbox marketing VP Mike Nichols.
Nichols went on to share statistics related to user engagement. Total global hours on Xbox One consoles jumped 42 percent year over year, and fans created "hundreds of thousands of designs" in Xbox Design Lab, a website that lets you customize Xbox One controllers.
Microsoft's got more ammo in the barrel. Earlier today, another Xbox executive assured IGN that Xbox Scorpio would be "the most powerful console ever," a clear shot across Sony's bow.
"We’re excited to launch Clubs and Looking for Group on Xbox Live broadly this holiday alongside some of our biggest titles for the year, including ReCore, Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4 and Dead Rising 4," said Nichols.
