Ever fancied controlling your TV and games console via your smartphone or tablet? Of course you have, it’s the third most common dream amongst technophiles after flying cars and the Megan Foxbot. Well thanks to Microsoft’s latest unveiling at the E3 expo in Los Angeles, this dream at least is being made a reality.
The new Xbox SmartGlass app will allow Xbox and Android owners (oh, okay, and devices running iOS and Windows too) to link their mobile to their console and then enjoy full, unfettered access and control of their televisions using the device’s touchscreen, swiping, pinching and tapping to navigate around.
Making the Xbox the hub of your home entertainment and your Android its universal remote, not only will Xbox SmartGlass enable you to view extra content, play games and access up to 30 million music tracks via Xbox Music all from the comfort of your phone or tablet, the addition of internet browsing will also turn your great glass Cyclops into a smart TV, putting the whole of the information superhighway on the big screen where it belongs.
Slated for an autumn release, just when you thought your Android device couldn’t possibly get any cooler, it’s almost about to.
