Xiaomi have their hands full with Ericsson’s lawsuit in India, and yet the company seems to be ready to announce a couple of new devices. Xiaomi’s CEO announced that they will launch their new flagship in January, this basically means we’ll see the Mi5 launch in January, he did not reveal the date of the launch, but the reports did say that might happen on January 15th. One thing is for sure, Xiaomi won’t participate at CES, so we won’t see the Mi5 launched there. This is not the only device this China-based smartphone OEM intends to unleash in January though.
This Chinese smartphone manufacturer has announced via their official Weibo (Chinese social network) page that they’ll announce a new version of the Redmi 1S handset on January 4th. This device will be launched in China in collaboration with Tencent, we’re talking about a dual LTE variant of this device, which will basically allow you to use 4G LTE networks on both of your SIM cards (in case you use both slots available in this phone). The current version of the Redmi 1S handset allows for 3G connectivity only, so this is great news for those of you interested in something like this, especially considering the device will be extremely cheap, of course.
This handset got certified by TENAA a while back when we thought Xiaomi is getting ready to launch the Redmi 2S, but it seems like this only a new version of the Redmi 1S (though it’s still possible Redmi 2S is on the way). This device will offer an improved spec sheet compared to the original Redmi 1S, it will feature a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 SoC, a 64-bit quad-core chip clocked at 1.2GHz will power on this handset and an Adreno 306 GPU will be in charge of graphics rendering. 8-megapixel camera was listed as this handset’s rear-facing shooter, while a 2-megapixel camera is expected to be available on the front side of this device. Android 4.4.4 KitKat will come pre-installed with Xiaomi’s MIUI on top of it, and the device will measure 134 x 67.21 x 9.2mm and weight 132 grams, which will make it is smaller, narrower, thinner and lighter than the original Redmi 1S handset.
