Xiaomi may finally be ready to announce the Mi5. Over a year after the Mi4 hit the market the first teaser’s for the rumored follow-up flagship have leaked out, hinting at an exciting new feature.
The teaser, which was leaked online by Weibo tipster @KJuma, features a massive number 5 along with the question “Are you ready.” Beneath that we see the top half of what looks like a fingerprint, suggesting the device could pack a biometric scanner. That’s not exactly a unique feature at the moment, but it could be Xiaomi’s first handset to offer the technology.
Beyond that the leaked image doesn’t reveal much. Neither does a second picture showing what appears to be a user manual for the Mi5. But hopefully this means the actual device isn’t too far behind.
Based on earlier rumors we’re expecting the Mi5 to be a pretty high-end device. It could pack a Quad HD display measuring a little over 5-inches across, a respectable battery in the 3000mAh range, 4GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera and a metal design. The device is said to also pack a Snapdragon 820 processor, though if that’s a case it may not actually ship until early next year when the new chip is ready for mass production.
