The new official ports of Android 9 Pie just keep rolling in and so far we don’t see any end in sight. Today, we wanted to highlight a couple of ports for the Xiaomi family with a port of CarbonROM for the Xiaomi Redmi 5A and a port of Nitrogen OS for the Xiaomi Mi 6.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A Android Pie Port
So first let’s discuss the Xiaomi 5A, a low-end device that was released in November of last year that can now run the latest version of Android’s software. As these are unofficial, and this one being labeled a CarbonBeta, some things work and some things do not. We would like to thank XDA Senior Member sunnyraj84348, XDA Recognized Developer riteshsaxena, XDA Member tr, and XDA Recognized Developer erfanoabdi for the work they put into making this port of CarbonROM for Android 9 Pie for the Redmi 5A.
What’s working :
RIL (Calls, SMS, Data)
For mtp go to developer option and set default usb configuration to file transfer.
Now, there’s another Xiaomi smartphone that just received an unofficial port of Android 9 Pie as well, and it happens to be the Xiaomi Mi 6, thanks to Nitrogen OS. Unlike with the custom ROM listed above, the developers haven’t listed anything about what works or doesn’t work. They do have a section labeled Known Bugs, but it just lists “bugs-bugs” under it. So it’s possible that this port is much more stable than the Redmi 5A port. This Android 9 Pie port comes to us thanks to the work of XDA Senior Member wloot, XDA Senior Member xyyx, XDA Senior Member ezio84, XDA Recognized Developer and Contributor BeansTown106, XDA Senior Member maxwen, and XDA Senior Member SyCreed.
