If there’s two main things we here at LOA prize above all else its cool apps and cool music. And sherry. Sorry, three things, three things. But as an app that somehow ensures a perpetually full glass has yet to be developed, we’ll have to stick with cool apps and cool music; or, even better, a music app so cool it makes cucumbers green with envy! Erm…
Offered up to us for inspection by its 16 year old French developer, Florent Revest, based on the fact that his friends were impressed, a little bit of you always wonders exactly what you’ll find – an awful, hastily cobbled together tribute to Un Direction? An okay but average affair of links to music fan facts gleaned from other sites? Or an original app that offers a fresh slice of audio intrigue? Well, pleasingly, in the case of Xound, very much the latter.
Available on a free week trial, download the app, open it up and – voilà – there’s your music collection ready to play. That was easy. But wait, there’s more, once you do hit play the lyrics of said songs are instantly downloaded for either general interest or nefarious karaoke reasons (So it’s not ‘moobs like Jabba’? Who knew!), along with short biographies and photos of the artists involved, throwing out facts about your bands that you may have been previously unaware of and making the experience as much for the eye as it for the ear.
Smooth running and quick to respond, Xound takes excellent care of the basics requirements of a decent audio app while roping in an array of fresh features that the majority of others have overlooked. Give it a blast and rediscover what going digital almost made us all forget – there’s more to music. Monsieur Revest will go a long way…
