Renowned camera specialists DxOMark ranked the Xperia Z2 at the top of the list when it launched earlier this year. Now DxOMark has turned its attention to the Xperia Z3 and once again, the handset has earned top marks. The Xperia Z3 managed an overall DxOMark score of 79, placing it alongside the Xperia Z2 and the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Breaking the score down, the Xperia Z3 scored top marks for its still performance with a score of 81 – the same as the Xperia Z2 and Nokia 808 Pureview. The Xperia Z3 does well with low noise levels and fast autofocus in bright light. On the negative side, the phone suffers from flare in sunny backlit shots along with some evidence of colour shading.
On the video side, DxOMark says the handset can’t better the Galaxy S5, scoring 76 points versus 79 for the S5. The Xperia Z3 wins marks for its image stabilisation, but DxOMark reports that autofocus is sometimes unstable. Overall, it sounds like a similar performance to the Xperia Z2 given the similarity in hardware.
