While the move isn’t exactly surprising, Yelp has announced that it is now opening its mobile apps to user-generated videos to help create more engaging, visual reviews.
The feature is already live in its iPhone app, and the company says the Android incarnation will follow “soon”, though it doesn’t indicate how soon. At any rate, this means that if you’re out dining downtown and a photo doesn’t quite do the mood of a place justice, you can now capture it with video.
Yelp says that 23,000 photos are already being updated each day from its mobile apps, so it’s clear that users are keen to contribute to the platform. You’ll not be able to record full-on video reviews though – restrictions of 3-12 seconds in length are in place to help keep things concise.
