Yelp is brushing up on its French, Spanish, and more. The popular iPhone app will now automatically translate reviews made in 15 languages.
A blog post from Yelp explains more about how the feature works using Bing Translator:
Picture this: Youre vacationing in Milan and want to try the best gelato in the city. Although theres a gelato shop on every corner, you want to find the real deal – a spot that isnt overflowing with tourists. You whip out your handy Yelp app to begin the search, but find yourself wishing you paid more attention in Italian class in high school. Now you can discover recommendations straight from the local experts themselves, no matter what language they speak.
The feature will work for all languages supported by Yelp: English, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, German, Spanish, Italian, Norwegian, French, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, and Japanese.
Before todays addition, the last major update to the app arrived in late July. Version 8.1 brought the ability for users to record short videos, anywhere from three to 12 seconds long, to help document their experience at local businesses.
Interestingly, former social check-in app Foursquare was recently updated to bring a very Yelp-like experience focusing on local discovery.
