Apple iPhones assembled in India are finally available in the country for purchase, with the text “Designed by Apple in California, Assembled in India” inscribed on the retail box.
Yes, the first iPhone to be assembled at the Bengaluru facility, the Apple iPhone SE is reported to have hit the shelves in select stores and via Apple distributor chains in the city of Bengaluru. However, it is said that the company is planning to expand the availability of these ‘Assembled-in-India’ iPhones across the country, probably once GST rolls out on July 1.
A recent report published by The Times Of India has mentioned that these iPhone SE models are being sold in select stores in Bengaluru for Rs 27,200 for 32 GB variant and Rs 37,200 for 128 GB variant.
To recall, Apple has set up its manufacturing facility in Peenya industrial region in Bengaluru, by joining hands with Wistron, instead of Foxconn, as the latter had already signed deal with a couple of Chinese companies.
While Apple is yet to setup an official Apple Store in India, it is definitely looking at capturing the Indian market. India is in-fact the third country to have an assembly or manufacturing unit for iPhones setup by Apple. Now, that’s interesting!
