Mobile app maker Mobilligy is on a commendable mission. As the company points out, more than 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. According to a study published by Bankrate earlier this month and covered by The Wall Street Journal, only 38% of people polled said that they had enough money in the bank to cover a surprise $500 repair bill or a $1,000 emergency room visit.
At the same time, Mobilligy also notes that banks in the U.S. recently raised average overdraft fees to a record high of $30 per incident, which led to the collection of overdraft fees totalling $32 billion in 2014.
It’s hard to imagine that one app can undo all of that damage, but Prism aims to try.
Prism is a free app for the iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone, Windows 8 and the Kindle Fire. The app’s goal is to simplify budgeting, banking and bill payments so that users can better manage their money to avoid costly overdraft fees and additional fees due to late payments.
The app not only notifies users when payments are due, it also checks bank account balances to help the user ensure that he or she has enough money to cover the payment. Payments are made from directly within the app, and they’re almost instant; say goodbye to the days of submitting a payment and still getting slapped with a late fee because it takes 1-2 days to “process.”
Prism’s full App Store description can be found below along with links to download the iOS and Android versions of the app.
