Freshly whipped out for the wonder-filled eyes of visitors to this year’s Intel Developer Forum in Beijing, behold: the awesome new and aptly named ZTE GEEK!
The first ZTE smartphone powered by Intel’s new 2.0GHz 32nm Atom processor Z2580, the GEEK (like you’re shouting it as someone in thick glasses) comes packing a 5-inch HD screen with resolution of up to 1280×720, runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and has 8GB eMMC+1GBRAM. Around the rear you’ll find an 8-megapixel camera, with 1-megapixel featuring on the front, and a 2300mAh large-capacity battery to keep you GEEKing for epically prolonged periods.
The addition of Intel’s latest at its heart means that the GEEK is twice as fast as Intel’s previously favoured processor, the Clover Trail+, for computing and three times as fast for graphics. And, of course, being the latest tiny 32nm tech, it generates less heat and requires less power to operate.
“Our recent collaboration with Intel on the ZTE GEEK builds on the success of the Grand Series and further enhances our competitiveness in the high-end smartphone market,” said ZTE EVP and Head of the Mobile Devices Division, Mr. He Shiyou. “This partnership will also improve customer experiences by providing them with more choices in the market.”
So, sounding like a superb smartbag of tech tricks, and looking a bit slim and sexy to boot, will the GEEK inherit the Earth? Well, there’s no word on pricing or availability at the moment – give them a chance! – but we’ll be sure to update you as and when we hear and, hopefully, get hold of a model for a rigorous review here too.
